Statement

My current work addresses how memory recognizes and reacts to the visual forms in photographs, specifically family snapshots. I am particularly interested in the re-assemblage of fragments that the mind compiles to form a collective memory, a more abstract impression of the person or place than typically depicted in a photograph. Through the use of reproduction, distortion, color, and the occasional placement of prototypical imagery, I call the viewer's attention to these areas in the image that produce a visual experience that more closely resembles the pluralistic quality of memory that the mind, not the eye, is capable of.
